The first quarterly review and assessment meeting of the National Seed Quality Control Services Division was held last March 28 – 31, 2016. Headed by NSQCS Division Chief, Ruel C. Gesmundo, Regional Center chiefs and heads of satellite laboratories attended the meeting in Samal Island, Davao del Norte. During the meeting, physical and financial accomplishments of each cluster for the 1st quarter were presented including issues and concerns. Updates on plant material certification, profiling of seed inspectors and seed growers, reporting, rationalization plan, Good Agricultural Practices, Food Safety and other matters were discussed. Section Chiefs from the Administrative Division were also invited to help address different concerns of the NSQCS centers and offices on financial matters such as allocation and obligation, disbursement and liquidation. Planning, personnel matters, procurement and other admin matters were also addressed.
The Bureau of Plant Industry supports the nation in 2016 National Women’s Month Celebration. On March 16, women and GAD advocates gathered in Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park, Manila to “celebrate the achievements, gains and accomplishments with regards to bridging the gender gap and promoting women’s empowerment.” Juana's and Juan's from various government agencies and attached bureaus, LGU's and private entities demand inclusion of major women's concerns specially from those who are currently seeking public office. The event also aimed to gather public perception on what women's issues should be prioritize in the next administration. The five major concerns are 1. Economic Empowerment 2. Social Development 3. Security, Justice and Peace 4. Climate change and Disaster Risk Reduction and 5. Gender-responsive Governance.
