BPI-Davao Conducts Hands-on Training on Mushroom Cultivation 

 

The Bureau of Plant Industry – Davao National Crop Research, Development and Production Support Center (BPI-DNCRDPSC) conducted a two-day hands-on training on mushroom culture and cultivation on April 21-22, 2016. The training was conducted to capacitate and equip mushroom enthusiasts on the culture and cultivation technologies of  different species of mushroom.

Ms. Arceli G. Yebes and Ms. Ma. Adelfa N. Lobres, Research Coordinator and In-charge of DNCRDPSC’s Plant Pest and Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, respectively, facilitated and managed the two-day activity.  They demonstrated to the participants the step-by-step process in mushroom culture such as preparation of potato dextrose agar, grain spawn and substrates for different species of mushroom and the techniques on how to care and maintain mushroom cultures and culture beds. On the second day,  each participant did a hands-on practice.

After the 2 days training, the 12 participants who were mushroom enthusiasts and growers in Davao City were able to prepare their culture media, grain spawn  and fruiting bag substrates. BPI Davao Conducts Hands on Training

Mamaril, PhD of the Bureau of Plant Industry(BPI) alerts all DA Regional Executive Directors, BPI Center Chiefs, National Plant Quarantine Services Division, National Seed Quality Control Services Division and Crop Research and Production Support Division for possible pests to occur during the 3rd quarter of the year to closely monitor the listed areas. Rodent, armyworm/ cutworm, bacterial leaf blight, rice stemborer, brown planthopper are among the top pests.   Our dear farmers are warned of the five pests to attack during the 2nd Quarter of the year. This is based on the historical data submitted by regions. Our Crop Pest Management Division listed areas where infestations may possibly occur. Bureau of Plant Industry OIC, Vivencio R. Mamaril issued a memorandum to all DA Regional Directors to alert the staff to closely monitor pests’ occurrence.
